Role purpose
The Senior Account Manager leads client relationships and programme delivery across key accounts—translating strategy into execution, ensuring campaign performance against KPIs, and guiding internal teams to deliver excellent work. This role also contributes to retention and organic growth through strong counsel and proactive opportunity spotting.
Key responsibilitiesClient leadership & counsel
* Build trusted, consultative relationships with client contacts; serve as a primary point of contact for day-to-day counsel and programme delivery.
* Translate client objectives into actionable campaign plans, scopes of work, and measurable KPIs.
* Provide strategic guidance informed by industry context, news cycles, and media landscape understanding.
Campaign strategy & execution
* Turn strategic and creative thinking into high-quality programmes and deliverables across channels (media relations, thought leadership, content, social, campaigns).
* Lead campaign evaluation: distill results into insights and recommendations that improve future performance.
* Brief internal specialists/creative partners to bring concepts to life across cross-disciplinary, integrated campaigns.
* Track editorial calendars, awards, speaking opportunities, events, and seasonal moments to maximise client outcomes.
Media relations & content oversight
* Maintain strong media relationships and ensure effective outreach, placement, and long-term media strategy development.
* Oversee development and final review of key written deliverables (press releases, bylines, blog posts, award entries, speaking submissions, briefing materials).
* Use media and AI tools (e.g., Roxhill, SEMRush, Anthropic, Muck Rack, etc) and data to identify themes/trends, refine engagement approaches, and inform pivots.
Delivery management (KPIs, budgets, resourcing)
* Project-manage account work across teams to ensure deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met; prevent under/over-servicing.
* Identify resourcing needs and skill gaps; partner with leadership to staff accounts appropriately.
* Flag risks early and support crisis/risk assessment planning, including drafting statements and comms chains when required.
Team leadership & growth
* Mentor and coach junior team members; support their development through feedback, goal-setting, and (where applicable) line management.
* Contribute to agency-wide capability building (process improvements, training, shared learnings).
* Support new business: contribute to credentials/RFIs, research and insight development, pitch content, and presentation support.
* Identify opportunities for retention and organic growth within existing accounts.
What you’ll bring
* At least eight to ten years experience. Strong agency PR background with experience running busy accounts and leading delivery across multiple workstreams.
* Proven ability to manage client expectations, guide strategy, and drive work forward with confidence and clarity.
* Excellent writing/editing capabilities and strong “story sense” grounded in the media agenda.
* Robust understanding of offline and online media, and comfort building relationships with journalists and wider stakeholders.
* Solid operational discipline: planning, prioritisation, budget awareness, and KPI-focused reporting.
* Tools familiarity (Muck Rack/Cision/Meltwater) and comfort using data and insights to improve media engagement strategies.
* People leadership capability (formal line management or informal coaching/mentorship).
