Reporting to the Director of the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment ("SSEE"), the post holder is the initiator of SSEE's Sustainability AI Hub, and is initially expected to be a lone research expert responsible for managing their own project and targeting external funding for the Hub beyond the initial fixed term of this contract.
This role arises from the growing importance of AI generally, and in an academic context more specifically. It is vital that AI is used both effectively and responsibly, and the Smith School now seeks to establish a Sustainability AI Hub to lead our work in this area. AI methodologies are increasingly being used to handle and interpret large data sets in sustainability-related research, and we wish to establish a centre of excellence to develop and communicate appropriate methodologies across the full breadth of the work of the Smith School.
The role holder will be the Head of the Sustainability AI Hub, and be responsible for determining the optimum structure for the Hub moving forward, as well as for setting the initial research priorities and seeking ongoing funding for the initiative.
This post is fixed-term for up to 18 months (extension may be possible depending on further funding) and offered on a full-time basis.
