Position Summary
This role involves managing a varied caseload of professional indemnity matters, with a strong focus on construction‑related disputes and architect liability claims. You'll support senior lawyers on complex, high‑value matters while also running your own files independently. The position requires strong analytical skills, excellent drafting ability, and a commercial, client‑focused approach.
Key Responsibilities
Casework & Legal Support
• Assist partners and senior associates with their caseloads
• Proactively manage your own portfolio of professional indemnity cases
• Work collaboratively on large, complex, and high‑value matters
• Prepare detailed reports, correspondence, pleadings, and other court documents
• Advise clients on liability, coverage, and policy interpretation
• Liaise with insurer and insured clients, experts, witnesses, counsel, and other stakeholders
• Ensure compliance with service level agreements, internal processes, and regulatory requirements
Team Leadership & Development
• Delegate work to junior solicitors and trainees, supporting their development
• Help supervise trainees, paralegals, and apprentices
• Contribute to team knowledge sharing and best practices
Client & Business Engagement
• Build strong relationships with insurer clients and industry partners
• Support business development initiatives and contribute to client growth
• Provide timely and accurate management information as required
About You
You will have demonstrable experience in professional indemnity work, particularly within the construction sector, and a solid understanding of insurance litigation.
Required Experience & Skills
• 3+ years PQE (or equivalent experience)
• Developing expertise in professional indemnity, especially construction and architect claims
• Experience in insurance litigation and policy coverage analysis
• Understanding of commercial insurance policies, reporting structures, reserving philosophies, and insurer/broker relationships
• Strong legal analysis, drafting, and attention to detail
• Ability to manage deadlines, prioritise effectively, and work under pressure
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client‑facing skills
• Strong organisational and time‑management abilities
• Confident working both independently and as part of a team
• Proficient IT skills and a positive, collaborative attitude
Desirable
• Experience with other professional risk claims
• Previous secondment or employment within an insurance organisation
