About the business division
The Water Utilities Division is Mott MacDonald's centre of excellence for water and wastewater challenges in the UK and Ireland. We focus on ensuring safe water supplies, urban flood prevention, and environmental protection through full project lifecycle services, from advisory to detailed design. Our teams deliver innovative solutions and offer diverse, stimulating opportunities.
Overview of the role
The Asset Management and Infrastructure Planning team, part of our Water Utilities Division, employs around 350 staff nationwide. We work on water and infrastructure projects both domestically and internationally, including:
* Statutory regulatory submissions and performance reporting
* Water resource and wastewater investment planning
* Strategic asset management and business planning
* Carbon and net zero strategies
* Integrated systems management
* Data analytics and decision support
* Contract appraisals (NEC, PPP)
Due to our successful framework bidding, we are expanding our investment planning team. As a Strategic Investment Planning Engineer, you will support the delivery of client investment plans, contribute to business development, and enhance our technical capabilities. Reporting to the Workstream Lead, you will play a key role in promoting value-driven planning and industry engagement.
Candidate specification
Essential:
* A relevant degree in water management, engineering, or related field
* Experience in developing water or wastewater engineering solutions
* Interest in developing technical and commercial skills
* Enthusiasm for feasibility studies, options appraisal, and early infrastructure solutions
Desirable:
* Chartered status or working towards it with a recognized professional body
* Knowledge of UK water sector regulation
* Experience with regional and company water plans (business, resource, drought, wastewater, sludge)
* Project management, client liaison, and consulting skills
* Experience in options appraisal, best value planning, auditing, and asset data utilization
* Strong report writing and presentation skills
