Overview
Principal Technical Safety Engineer – Location: Aberdeen. Contract: 12 month initial contract. Salary / Package: Inside or Outside IR35, contract available with excellent hourly rate. Recruitment Partner: Airswift. Account Manager: Karen Robertson. This role supports traditional Oil & Gas projects and an LPG project in all technical safety design aspects.
Key Responsibilities
* Responsible for ensuring that the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) aspects of the design within the project scope are maintained to the relevant acceptable standards and comply with applicable legislation.
* Hazard identification, risk assessment and quantification.
* Review safety engineering requirements for specific projects.
* Development of risk and consequence models for hydrocarbon production and flammable gas processing plants (Offshore and Onshore).
* Work as part of the Risk & Safety Engineering group to provide advice to Project Engineering personnel & Management on all aspects of risk reduction, mitigation and safety engineering matters.
* Ensure the provision of technical assurance across the technical safety (DHSE) including loss prevention activities and deliverables on allocated project.
* Lead and coordinate the activities and deliverables allocated to the location in accordance with the project schedule.
* Gather & compile process safety and environmental information. Prepare Safety Engineering Plans, Philosophies and Basis of Design documents.
* Execute Hazard Studies. Participate in Safety & Design Reviews and Hazard and Operability Studies.
* Demonstrate the ability to facilitate a variety of Technical Safety Reviews.
* Recommend where any additional Technical Safety reviews are necessary because of scope change, design development, etc.
* Ensure designs meet and can demonstrate ALARP principles have been applied.
* At the end of each project phase, ensure that all lists, files and reports are filed correctly, ready for input to the next project phase.
Critical Skills & Personal Attributes
* Chemical Engineering degree or equivalent.
* Chartered or Professional accreditation.
* Proven experience in a Risk & Safety Engineering role demonstrated through previous projects.
* Relevant experience in technical audits, hazard identification, risk assessment, quantification and mitigation techniques.
* Competent report writing & Data Base development skills using MS Office software tools (Word, Excel, Access).
* All round energy industry experience from traditional oil & gas, offshore hydrocarbon & onshore hydrocarbon, chemical plant to sustainability project experience (CCUS, H2, etc).
