Clinical Fellow in Accident & Emergency Ophthalmology

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow in Accident & Emergency Ophthalmology. The post is offered on a fixed‑term basis of 12 months and will include predominantly sessions at the A&E department in City Road, with occasional sessions at Moorfields Satellite sites. Candidates will also gain exposure to subspecialty clinics (Medical Retina/Uveitis, Neuro Ophthalmology, Adnexal, External disease, Vitreoretinal Surgery, Glaucoma) which will be discussed with each candidate and are non‑surgical.
In addition to weekday work, successful candidates will contribute to a 1 in 4 weekend rota in A&E at City Road and perform evening shift work in A&E. The majority of sessions will be during standard 9‑5 working hours.
Main Duties
* Diagnosis and management of in‑ and out‑patients.
* Management of urgent cases presenting at any time during the week.
* Supervision of junior medical staff and participation in informal and formal teaching.
* Opportunities for research and audit.
* Participation in a 1:4 weekend rota.
* Assessment of virtual presentations using the video assessment platform.
* Triage of urgent presentations and management within the Urgent Care Clinic.
Additional Responsibilities
* Develop the Nurse Practitioner role and provide teaching, supervision and education.
* Occasional cover of General Ophthalmology clinics.
* Work closely with consultants in A&E and specialist clinics to support a cohesive training environment.
Education / Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent.
* FRCOphth or MRCOphth or equivalent.
* Full GMC registration.
* Ability to communicate in English verbally and in writing.
Experience
* Experience in general ophthalmology.
* Experience working in an acute ophthalmology setting.
* Experience of clinical audit.
* At least one year as a senior house officer in ophthalmology and one year as a pre‑registration house officer in medicine/surgery or equivalent.
* Preferably currently at specialist registrar level 2 or 3 in ophthalmology or similar higher surgical training.

* Applicants from motivated less experienced doctors or more experienced Trust Grades and senior fellows wanting to increase subspecialist experience are welcomed.
