We have a great new role for a Senior IP Designer to join our Core Engineering team! This is a key role working with Architects and other Designers to develop designs and low-level configurations for Virgin Media O2’s access, aggregation and core transport networks. Virgin Media O2 co-operates with various providers of optical, microwave, Ethernet and IP connectivity products and, using these products, builds IP connectivity solutions between the radio equipment (located at cell sites and, in some cases, at core sites), access devices (such as OLTs, CPEs, etc.) and the core transport networks.
This role will encompass support to both test and trial activities to ensure that the designs and low-level configurations are suitable for wider deployment. The role will further extend to the consideration of steps that will facilitate smooth migration from one design / configuration to another.
Role Responsibilities
* Development, documentation and updates of Layer 2 and IP network designs that make use of Layer 2 and Layer 3 transport products.
* Production of routing designs for the mobile MPLS core to meet agreed service targets and resilience levels.
* Ensure that all solutions are aligned with the business requirements and technology standards that include network simplification, increasing capacity, resilience, disaster recovery, network management and security.
Must Haves
* Significant experience of L3/L2 routing protocols including BGP and designing of IP, MPLS networks.
* Experience of Segment Routing, BGP-LU designs and EVPN Services.
* Excellent understanding of Broadband Network Gateway designs and their use in xPON networks.
* Direct experience in producing High Level and Low Level Designs and Scopes of Work applied to carrier grade IP Networks.
* Hands on experience with at least 2 of the 3 vendors and technologies; Nokia, Cisco and Juniper Core networking technologies including Nokia 7750 SR, Cisco CRS/ASR/7600 and Juniper MX/PTX family platforms.
* Solid experience in working as Technical Lead for transport projects in co-operation with Project Managers. Ability to identify the involved parties and resources required for each project.
Other Requirement
* Juniper Certification (JNCIE, JNCIP, JNCIS, JNCDS) equipment vendor.
* Nokia SRC Certification (NRS, SRA)
* Familiarity with transport design in mobile networks (Radio Access Network) would be highly advantageous.
* Experience on Sync techniques for mobile infrastructure, specifically PTP and Phase Sync.
* Experience in designing mobile backhaul networks for Ericsson and Nokia Radio Access Networks would be highly advantageous.
* Experience in producing HLDs and LLDs for Transport IP Network elements preferably related to Nokia, Juniper and Ciena routing and switching environments.
