Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical Bias) Location: Dudley, West Midlands Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 (including shift allowance) Shift Pattern: Rotating 2 Shift Pattern (6:00am – 2:00pm / 2:00pm – 10:00pm) Overtime Available Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent The Opportunity We are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical Bias) on behalf of a well-established steel processing company based in Dudley. You will work as part of a two-person engineering team on shift, maintaining and improving plant performance while minimising downtime. Key Responsibilities
o Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across plant machinery
o Respond to breakdowns and ensure minimal disruption to production
o Diagnose and repair faults in line with your bias (mechanical or electrical)
o Complete maintenance records and shift reports
o Work safely in line with health & safety procedures
o Collaborate with production and engineering teams
Key Duties (Depending on Bias) Mechanical
o Maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
o Welding, fabrication, and mechanical repairs
o Oxy-acetylene burning
o Bench fitting and general mechanical work
Electrical
o Fault finding on motors, sensors, switches, and control systems
o Basic electrical maintenance and repairs
o Support electrical fault diagnosis alongside mechanical work
General
o Operation of forklifts, cherry pickers, and overhead cranes (OHC)
Candidate Requirements
o NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical)
o Time-served apprenticeship (preferred)
o Experience within heavy industry or manufacturing
o Strong fault-finding skills within your core discipline
o Ability to work effectively within a small team
