Job Overview
Join a purpose-driven organisation committed to delivering excellence across the UK’s water sector. As an Internal Auditor, you’ll play a pivotal role in strengthening our internal audit program - providing independent, objective assurance and advisory services that enhance operational performance, regulatory compliance, and ethical culture.
Working within a dynamic team of four auditors, you’ll collaborate across departments including Legal, Compliance, Procurement, and front-line operations in water, wastewater, and customer services. Your work will span financial and non-financial audits - covering operational, IT, environmental, and compliance areas - and may involve travel to regional offices, treatment plants, and partner organisations.
This is a high-impact role that supports improvements in assurance, regulatory reporting, delivery plans, and fraud risk management, helping us meet our statutory and regulatory obligations.

You’re a confident, analytical professional with a passion for driving integrity and performance in regulated environments. You thrive in cross-functional settings and are adept at navigating complex organisational structures. You bring a sharp eye for detail, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to challenge constructively.
Experience & Knowledge
1. Proven internal audit experience, ideally within utilities, infrastructure, or regulated industries
2. Strong grasp of risk management frameworks, ISO systems, and governance models (e.g., three lines of defence)
3. Professional qualifications such as CIA, CMIIA, ACA, ACCA (or equivalent)
4. Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems
5. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and report-writing skills
6. Ability to manage multiple audits under tight deadlines
Capabilities
7. Skilled in stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration
8. Comfortable challenging and supporting cultural change
9. Adaptable to evolving business and regulatory landscapes
10. Proficient in audit software and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, ACL, Power BI)
11. Strong investigative and analytical mindset
