We are a specialist mechanical engineering business with decades of experience in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of industrial electric motors. Our core capabilities include rewinds, repairs, and associated services for a wide range of electromechanical equipment. Backed by private equity and recently financially restructured, we are poised for a new phase of operational stability, customer growth, and capability development.
Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, commercially minded General Manager to lead the business through its next chapter of growth and operational excellence. You will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the business, ensuring high-quality service delivery, financial discipline, and strong customer relationships. Working closely with the board, you will help deliver the strategic plan while maintaining the company's strong technical reputation and operational resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
* Oversee daily operations across production, engineering, health & safety, and quality.
* Ensure efficient workflow, optimal resource utilisation, and timely delivery of services.
* Drive a culture of continuous improvement and accountability throughout the business.
Commercial & Customer Focus
* Manage key customer relationships and ensure consistently high levels of service and satisfaction.
* Lead quoting, pricing, and contract negotiation processes with support from the commercial team.
* Identify and pursue opportunities to grow revenue with new and existing customers.
Team Management & Culture
* Lead, motivate, and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and support staff.
* Foster a performance-driven, collaborative, and safety-conscious culture.
* Ensure appropriate training, performance management, and succession planning are in place.
Financial & Strategic
* Take ownership of the P&L, cashflow management, and budgeting in conjunction with finance support.
* Report regularly to the board and investors on operational and financial performance.
* Support strategic initiatives such as capital investment, capability development, and potential bolt-on acquisitions.
Key Requirements
* Proven leadership experience in a small to mid-sized industrial, engineering, or MRO business.
* Strong operational management skills with a practical, hands-on leadership style.
* Understanding of electromechanical equipment, ideally electric motors and rewinds.
* Commercially astute with experience managing budgets, customer accounts, and pricing.
* Excellent communication, people management, and organisational skills.
* Comfortable working in a private equity–owned business or similar fast-paced environment.
Desirable Qualifications
* Engineering qualification (HND, Degree, or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical discipline.
* Experience leading a workshop-based or service-led business.
* Exposure to ISO standards, quality systems, and health & safety compliance.
