NHS Medical Receptionist / Administrator (Trinity Medical Centre)
Key Information
 * Location: Uttoxeter Road, Blythe Bridge, Stoke-on-Trent, ST11 9HQ
 * Contract: Permanent
 * Hours: 2 vacancies – part‑time or full‑time (hours negotiable)
 * Pay: Depending on experience

Responsibilities
 * Provide an effective and efficient reception service to patients and visitors.
 * Handle general enquiries face‑to‑face and by telephone, explaining processes and procedures.
 * Keep patients informed and deliver the best possible service.
 * Prioritise workload and manage time effectively.
 * Complete assigned tasks including patient liaison, documentation, record updates and stock control.
 * Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover.
 * Receive, divert and take messages for telephone calls with accuracy and promptness.
 * Prioritise patient appointments / home visits and liaise with the Duty Doctor when necessary.
 * Process repeat prescription requests electronically or manually following written protocol.
 * Advise patients on charges for private (non‑GMS) services, accept payment, and issue receipts.
 * Administer non‑NHS services such as medicals and copies of records for insurance purposes.
 * Open and close premises, ensure safety procedures, and maintain secure environment.
 * Register patients accurately and promptly.
 * Provide cover for colleague absences, sickness or annual leave when requested.
 * Maintain confidentiality, health & safety, equality & diversity standards and professional development.
Qualifications
 * Good standard of general education (Standard Grade Maths, English or equivalent).
 * Experience of working in a GP practice or similar healthcare setting.
 * Practical experience of computerised recording systems.
 * Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
 * IT and keyboard skills; ability to use practice information systems.
 * Ability to follow procedures, work to deadlines and handle potential conflict.
 * Strong organisational and planning skills, ability to work under pressure and adapt to change.
 * Teamworking, self‑motivation, flexibility and confidentiality.
 * Awareness of potential conflicts of interest.
Desirable
 * Experience within a General Practice Reception environment.
 * Problem‑solving skills.
