Sheridan Maine is partnering with an established organization seeking a proactive and commercially minded Financial Controller to lead their UK finance function. This role offers the opportunity to work within a forward-thinking business where finance is highly valued, collaborating closely with senior stakeholders to provide financial insights and support strategic decisions.
Responsibilities as the Financial Controller
* Manage accounting systems (e.g., Xero), including general ledger, accounts receivable/payable, payroll, and month-end close.
* Oversee daily financial operations, including cash flow, budgeting, reconciliations, and reporting.
* Prepare monthly management accounts and financial dashboards.
* Establish and maintain internal financial controls and documentation.
* Coordinate with external accountants for audits and statutory filings.
* Support board meetings and investor communications.
* Monitor cash position, payment cycles, and funding needs.
* Manage banking relationships and payments.
* Oversee trade finance activities, including invoice factoring and LC compliance.
* Manage trade credit insurance and credit policies.
* Implement collections workflows and follow-ups.
Candidate Requirements
* Approximately 5-8 years of experience in finance or trade finance roles, preferably in fast-paced or high-growth environments.
* Big 4 qualification.
* Strong understanding of accounting principles; experience with Xero is a plus.
* Experience managing cash flow and multi-currency operations.
* High attention to detail and compliance.
* Experience with accounts receivable/payable, especially in transactional businesses.
* Familiarity with treasury and trade finance tools.
