Caretaker (Part-Time) 10–15 hours per week (flexible pattern agreed with the Headteacher) Start date: As soon as possible Location: Northfields Infants & Nursery School, Letchworth Garden City Northfields Infants & Nursery School is a friendly, creative and community-minded school where pupils thrive because adults take pride in doing the small things well. We are now looking for a reliable, proactive caretaker to join our team and help us keep the site safe, compliant and welcoming every day. Working closely with the Headteacher and office team, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day care of the school premises, ensuring statutory checks are completed on time, minor repairs are dealt with promptly, and the site is opened each morning ready for pupils and staff. About the role This is a flexible part-time role (10–15 hours per week), ideally split across early mornings and additional hours that work for you and the school. Key duties include: · Opening the site each morning and ensuring buildings and grounds are safe, clean and ready for learning. · Completing statutory and routine compliance tasks, such as water hygiene checks, fire alarm tests, emergency lighting tests and playground equipment checks (training can be provided). · Carrying out basic handyperson jobs: minor repairs, adjustments, furniture moves and general upkeep. · Monitoring contractors on site and supporting with health and safety requirements. · Working with the office and leadership team to ensure all premises duties are completed to a high standard. About you We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and understands the importance of a well-run site for young children and their families. You will be: · Experienced in building maintenance, handyperson tasks or a similar practical role. · Confident with (or willing to learn) routine compliance and safety checks. · Reliable, organised and able to work independently with good attention to detail. · Calm, friendly and able to communicate well with staff, pupils, parents and contractors. · Someone with a flexible approach to working hours and tasks. Experience in a school environment is helpful but not essential — the right attitude and willingness to learn matter most.
