Position Overview
Associate Clinical Scientist (Band 6) – NSD Reference Laboratories, located in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE), Directorate of Laboratory Medicine (Molecular Diagnostics).
Grade: Band 6
Salary: £43,231–£52,679 per annum
Type: Full time
Hours: 36.0 per week (Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week from 1/4/26; pay will not be affected)
Contract: Fixed-term (12 months)
Location: RIE, Directorate of Laboratory Medicine (Molecular Diagnostics)
Key Responsibilities
* Work in the Scottish Microbiology Reference Laboratories co-located in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
* Deliver laboratory services and associated research as part of the Scottish HPV Reference Laboratory (SHPVRL).
* Apply routine clinical microbiology practices and molecular techniques.
* Engage in continued professional development and further study as opportunities arise.
Qualifications and Experience
* Pre-registration Clinical Scientist with a good honours degree in Microbiology or a related life science subject.
* Strong communication, organisational, and analytical skills.
* Experience in molecular techniques and in a routine clinical microbiology setting.
* Professional attitude, teamwork, and interest in applied research.
* Experience in Human Papillomavirus research is welcome but not essential.
