Join to apply for the OHL (Overhead Line) Engineer (Energy) role at WSP in the UK & Ireland.
What you will do
* Lead a team of design engineers specializing in Overhead Transmission Lines, covering projects from 11kV to 400kV.
* Provide technical evaluations and solve problems for the team; prepare written proposals detailing project scope, timeline, resources, budget, objectives, and goals.
* Offer technical guidance throughout project implementation, statutory planning, and public consultation activities.
* Oversee engineering and design activities for the team related to overhead lines, including PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, structure analysis and loading trees, design criteria, sag-tension calculations, insulator/conductor considerations, swing angles, damper systems, structure spotting, clearance reports, and conductor/insulator selection.
* Conduct feasibility studies, perform conductor thermal ratings, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
* Undertake studies to identify a technically preferred solution or layout to take forward to the Client.
* Participate in industry working groups such as CIGRE and IEEE.
Requirements
* A bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline, preferably Electrical or Power engineering.
* Prior experience in overhead line engineering up to 400kV.
* Experience on upgrading projects such as use of High Temperature Low Sag conductors.
* Desirable – PLS CADD/POLE/TOWER.
* Knowledge of galloping studies, EMF and Field Effects Calculation, Wake effect, and AC Interference for gas pipelines is a plus.
* Willingness to travel as projects dictate.
