Mechanical Assembler - Defence Engineering - Portsmouth
Copello have partnered with an established defence engineering business based in Portsmouth to recruit an experienced Mechanical Assembler to join their production team.
This is a hands-on, detail-focused role responsible for assembling, fitting, and testing mechanical components used in high-integrity defence systems. The successful candidate will work as part of a skilled team, ensuring that all assemblies meet the required standards of quality, precision, and reliability.
Key aspects of the role include:
* Assembling and fitting mechanical and electromechanical components to engineering drawings and work instructions
* Using hand tools, torque wrenches, and measuring equipment to precise tolerances
* Conducting functional tests and inspections to verify build quality
* Working closely with engineers, quality, and production teams to resolve build issues
* Supporting continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
* Maintaining a safe and organised work environment in line with company and defence standards
Ideal background:
* Apprenticeship or qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (preferred but not essential)
* Previous experience in mechanical assembly, fitting, or precision manufacturing
* Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and assembly instructions
* Experience working within a regulated or defence environment desirable
* Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
* Eligible for UK Security Clearance (essential)
