Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel is seeking a passionate and motivated Psychology Graduate to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Newcastle as a Behaviour support Assistant. This full-time position begins in September and will continue until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role depending on performance.

About the Role:
As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development. This position is particularly well-suited for graduates with a background in psychology who are interested in pursuing a career in education, mental health, or related fields.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with diverse needs, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.
* Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons by adapting materials and strategies to meet individual student needs.
* Observe and support students' progress, identifying areas where additional assistance may be required.
* Use psychological principles to help students develop positive coping mechanisms, resilience, and confidence.
* Promote positive behaviour and create a supportive learning environment.
* Collaborate with school staff, including teachers, SEN coordinators, and pastoral teams, to implement personalized support plans.
* Contribute to assessments and provide feedback on students’ progress to teachers and parents where appropriate.
* Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the wider school community.

The ideal candidate will:

* Be a recent graduate in psychology or a related field.
* Have a genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them achieve their potential.
* Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to build positive relationships with students and staff.
* Demonstrate empathy, patience, and resilience in working with students facing challenges.
* Have some experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable groups (desirable but not essential).
* Be committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
