Hours: 36 hours per week. Fixed Term contract 12 months. Salary: Band 7 (£52,845 - £61,466 per annum) / Band 8A (£65,125 - £70,303 per annum).
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s Clinical Perfusion department provides support to the North of Scotland Cardiothoracic service, inclusive of minimally invasive procedures, complex aortic surgery and Intra‑aortic balloon pump therapy. In addition to the usual cardiac workload, the Perfusion department also provides support to a VV‑ECMO service for respiratory failure; training initiatives for intra‑operative cell salvage (ICS) across three NHS Grampian sites; and teaching and education opportunities in collaboration with the University of Aberdeen (UoA).
Responsibilities
* Manage technical aspects of patients undergoing cardiac surgery, including extracorporeal oxygenation, blood biochemistry and acid/base management strategies, blood conservation techniques, and specialised point‑of‑care testing such as ACT / Thromboelastography.
* Provide support to VV‑ECMO service for respiratory failure.
* Support training initiatives for intra‑operative cell salvage across NHS Grampian sites.
* Deliver teaching and education opportunities in collaboration with the University of Aberdeen.
Qualifications
* Accredited with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientist in Great Britain and Ireland.
* Competent in a range of perfusion techniques used in adult cardiac surgery.
* Familiar with therapies such as intra‑aortic balloon counter pulsation, intra‑operative cell salvage, and coagulation monitoring with thromboelastography.
* Senior Clinical Perfusionist role; Clinical Perfusionist applications also considered.
