About the School
Compass Community Schools places children first through a therapeutic, innovative approach. Integrity, courage and care shape how we work—we listen deeply, challenge each other and fix what needs fixing together.
We provide extensive therapeutic training and support to staff. Our approach recognises the wide range of backgrounds and needs of our students, including SEMH and SEND such as autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties. The close triangulated model places the child at the centre of decision‑making, supporting collaboration between education, therapy professionals, parents/carers and local authority teams.
The Role
We are a therapeutic school committed to a healing approach to supporting children with challenging behaviours. Our Therapeutic Pastoral Lead embodies, leads, and facilitates this approach within our schools, working holistically with teams, families, and external partners.
As a key member of the local leadership team, you will be co‑managed by Regional SENCOs and the Therapeutic Development Manager, and your role supports the holistic development of our students.
Your role requires calm, sensitive handling of potential dysregulation, practical knowledge of key theories and frameworks for intervention, and experience in de‑escalation.
Continued professional development (CPD) in our Assessing and Healing Childhood Trauma (AHCT) approach will be provided, and you will promote this knowledge throughout the educational staff.
You will run intervention groups with young people and model therapeutic interactions and best practice.
The Successful Candidate Will Be Responsible For
* Pastoral, SMSC, socio‑emotional resilience and personal development of students.
* Assessment, monitoring, reporting on, and supporting overall holistic progress and personal development of students.
* Ensuring safeguarding is paramount and safeguarding policies are adhered to.
* Contributing to the annual School Improvement Plan and School Evaluation Form.
* Maintaining knowledge of and shared responsibility for SMSC and Personal Development elements of the Independent School Standards and Ofsted inspection framework.
