The Role
Title: BI Engineer
Location: Derby - Hybrid (twice a week in the office)
Position Summary
This role requires an experienced BI Engineer to support our data team in a hybrid capacity, combining business intelligence development with data engineering responsibilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and developing our PowerBI reporting infrastructure whilst building and optimizing data pipelines within our analytics platform.
Key Accountabilities
Data Engineering
* Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines using Python and SQL
* Develop and optimize data workflows within Snowflake environment
* Monitor data quality, reliability, and performance across pipeline processes
* Troubleshoot data issues and implement solutions
* Establish data integration processes with source system owners
Business Intelligence
* Create and maintain PowerBI data models with focus on performance optimization
* Develop interactive dashboards and reports for business stakeholders
* Support and enhance existing PowerBI reports based on user requirements
* Connect PowerBI to various data sources ensuring secure data access
* Document all BI assets and processes
Stakeholder Management
* Gather and translate business requirements into technical solutions
* Collaborate with business users and provide training on self‑service capabilities
* Work with data engineering team on cross‑functional projects
* Support ad‑hoc analytical requests
Essential Requirements
Technical Skills
* PowerBI: Data modeling, DAX, Power Query, report development
* Snowflake: Data warehouse experience including SQL optimization
* SQL: Advanced skills in complex queries, stored procedures, performance tuning
* Python: Data manipulation, automation, pipeline development
* ETL/ELT: Experience building and maintaining data integration processes
Experience & Knowledge
* Minimum 2 years relevant experience BI, data engineering, or analytics
* Understanding of data architecture principles and data warehouse concepts
* Track record of delivering end‑to‑end data solutions
* Experience working with business stakeholders to gather requirements
* Proven ability to work independently on complex data problems
Soft Skills
* Strong problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail
* Ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences
* Collaborative working style suitable for agile environments
Desirable Requirements
* Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and data services
* Knowledge of data visualization best practices
* Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD
