Birkbeck, University of London, has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to join our teaching team in the School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication.
We are looking for an Associate Lecturer to convene and teach our module, German, starting next year on a part time contract.
As part of our programmes, you would teach the module:
* German 3 and German 4
* 25 hours in term 2, Friday 6-8.30pm
* Friday 16 January 2026 – Friday 27 March 2026
As Associate Lecturer, your role will include convening the module, running workshops and seminars, offering one-to-one tutorials, module administration and assessment.
To succeed as Associate Lecturer, you will have knowledge of German language and experience of teaching German language at stages 3 and 4 and be qualified to the corresponding level of the award as required to teach (or demonstrate equivalent professional/industry level experience).
In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, the minimum requirements for selection are:
* Demonstrable knowledge of German language and experience of teaching German language
* A good understanding of the needs of full and part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm
* Effective oral and written communication skills
* A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, e-mail and experience of (or willingness to use) Moodle & Teams.

Remuneration
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
Contract
