Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Special Educational Needs (Trauma‑Informed Practice)
Location: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00
Salary: £13.80 – £15 per hour
Contract: Ongoing temporary with potential for permanent placement
About the Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll play a key part in delivering high‑quality, person‑centred support within small classes (maximum 10 pupils) alongside a dedicated teaching and clinical team. Your focus will be on using empathy, consistency, and trauma‑informed strategies to create a calm, nurturing environment where every child can succeed.
Your Responsibilities
* Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to create a sense of safety and belonging.
* Use trauma‑informed practices to support emotional regulation and reduce anxiety or distress.
* Model positive behaviour and communication at all times.
* Adapt resources and strategies to meet individual learning and emotional needs.
* Collaborate with the teacher, SENCO, and therapists to deliver personalised support plans.
* Encourage independence and celebrate progress, however small, with genuine enthusiasm.
* Promote resilience, wellbeing, and self‑esteem through patience, consistency, and encouragement.
What We’re Looking For
* GCSE Maths and English Language (Grade 4/C or equivalent) essential.
* Experience or understanding of working with children with SEMH, Autism, or trauma backgrounds.
* Awareness of trauma‑informed practice and de‑escalation techniques.
* Calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting challenging behaviour.
* Strong teamwork, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
* Must be commutable to Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
