Overview
Trust Doctor (ST4+ equivalent) in Frailty SDEC at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. There are two posts available; successful applicants will work with the Elderly Medicine (DOME) Team at St Richards and Worthing Hospital (one vacancy per site). The post offers excellent experience in Acute frailty and input into the development of same day emergency care. The role could suit those seeking CESR progression towards a consultant or those developing into a specialty doctor pathway.
Closing date: 18 October 2025
Main duties
With slightly different setups across the hospital sites, the aim is to support the development of the Frailty SDEC service by providing a front door frailty service for frail older people presenting to Accident & Emergency and through to the Emergency Floor. The post will be an integral part of our Acute Frailty service, and will also provide support and in-reach to the DOME wards across the hospital.

Job responsibilities
The role will be based primarily between the Emergency Department and the Emergency Floor, with eventual inclusion in a specific frailty SDEC footprint on either site. The role will be part of the Acute Frailty Team and will involve day-to-day care of patients living with frailty on inpatient wards. The service development plans include expanding the frailty SDEC and rapid access clinics, adopting a system-based approach to provide excellent care and establishing admission avoidance pathways with community geriatrics and initiatives such as Virtual Ward. As a teaching hospital with links to the medical school, we encourage sharing skills with junior teams.
As an experienced registrar, you will lead the team of junior doctors, supported by Consultants, in delivering high-quality care and ensuring timely discharge for inpatients across the Emergency Floor and DOME wards.
