Offer description

We are recruiting another GPA to support the GPs & nurses to ensure smooth running of clinics by performing more routine administrative and clinical tasks on behalf of the clinicians, freeing up their time to concentrate on the patient. The GPA will work in a team with two other GPAs and will be expected to carry out a variety of duties each day to support GPs, ANPs & practice nurses.


Main duties of the job

Sorting incoming clinical and administrative triage requests includes signposting, gathering further information from patients, sending on to clinicians and sending to team members or outside agencies where appropriate. It also includes direct booking of appointments for patients.

Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients

Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefit agency forms etc.

Explaining treatment / referral options to patients

Helping liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP continues with their consultation

Supporting the GPs/clinicians in clinic by ensuring relevant stock is filled in their consulting rooms

Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs action to be taken / coding

Fridge temperature monitoring, checking emergency equipment/drugs, stock checks for clinical stock

Audits

Care home weekly ward round administration

Managing diary entries on the clinical system

Injection registers ordering stock and arranging appointments

Administration work to assist with GP contracts e.g. QoF, Long term Conditions LES etc.


About us

Whittle Surgery is a large, busy practice with around 11,600 patients based in Whittle-le-Woods. We have a team of 8 GPs, 3 advanced nurse practitioners, 2 practice nurses, 2 student nurse associates, 2 HCAs, 2 GPAs, 1 pharmacist & 1 pharmacy technician and a large administrative team. We are a training practice and encourage our employees to develop within their role at the practice.

In the performance of the duties outlined in this job description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. Health & safety:

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy, the practice Health & Safety manual, and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures. This will include:

Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines.

Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.

Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.

Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.

Actively reporting health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised.

Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holder’s role.

Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually).

Demonstrate due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths


Experience

* Experience of working in general practice.
* Experience of working with GP triage systems.
* Experience of phlebotomy, ECGs and urine dip testing.
