Role
The role will be a practical, hands‑on leadership position responsible for the safe, effective, and reliable operation of several engineering facilities, including the Rotational Machines, Renewable Energy, Battery Testing, Fluids and Thermodynamics, and Materials and Mechanics labs. You will manage a small technical team providing direct support, including student‑facing, to ensure these essential teaching and research spaces are maintained to an exceptional standard. Work undertaken by your team is diverse and may include: schematic capture, systems design, 3D CAD modelling, 3D printing and preparation of laboratory equipment for teaching or research.
Role Specific Responsibilities
* Provide technical support to students and staff on a range of teaching and research projects including the design and build of bespoke electrical and mechanical systems.
* Produce and maintain clear documentation for equipment and its operation, including operating procedures, maintenance information, health and safety documentation, risk assessments, and records relating to COSHH and PUWER where applicable.
* Qualify as one of several Electrically Authorised/Competent Persons within the School support team.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
* Undergraduate degree, or equivalent relevant experience
* In depth knowledge of mechanical and electronic test and measurement equipment, including 3 phase electrical systems
* Demonstrable experience of designing, constructing, or maintaining electrical and mechanical equipment
* Experience of training others in lab techniques and use of complex equipment
* Able to maintain a positive, open attitude toward others, to value and support colleagues. The ability to respond and integrate change and to demonstrate personal resilience
