We're working with a manufacturing site seeking a Control Systems / Automation Engineer with 3-5+ years' experience in a plant or industrial environment. The role is site‑based and offers the chance to take real ownership of the control systems while contributing to ongoing projects and future site investment.
The role will involve:
* Managing and maintaining the on‑site Siemens PLC systems
* Writing, modifying, and improving PLC code to support safe and efficient operations
* Supporting control systems projects and continuous improvement initiatives
* Ensuring control systems reliability and process stability across the site
The site operates with ATEX areas and SIL‑regulated systems. Experience in these areas is beneficial but not essential, as training and development can be provided.

Main Responsibilities
* Act as first point of contact for Electrical and Automation maintenance support.
* Provide rapid response to breakdowns, minimising plant and process downtime.
* Modify and maintain PLC programs (Siemens, TIA Portal, WinCC), ensuring program integrity is preserved.
* Support operations and projects across control systems, electrical infrastructure, and instrumentation.
* Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs on production equipment.
* Collaborate with production teams to identify process limitations and recommend improvements.
* Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities on production lines.
* Apply structured problem‑solving techniques (RCA, 5 Whys, predictive maintenance).
* Support continuous improvement initiatives including TPM, CBM, EEM, and lean principles.
* Assist with commissioning and installation of new machinery.
* Ensure engineering activities are accurately recorded on the CMMS, including time, parts, and costs.
* Support critical spares and plant inventory management.
* Contribute to knowledge transfer and basic skills training for operators.
* Comply fully with all Health & Safety, Food Safety, and site procedures.
* Undertake training and development identified through performance reviews.
* Carry out any other reasonable engineering‑related duties.
