To find out more read all details below and watch a short video of our past students’ experience .**About the placement**The Centre for Drug Development (CDD) at Cancer Research UK consists of a diverse and experienced office-based team who sponsor and manage high quality early phase clinical trials. We work in collaboration with leading scientists and clinicians around the UK to develop effective new anti-cancer treatments.Here at the CDD, we’re offering a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience and training within a world class clinical research environment. Our placements will provide you with an exciting opportunity to develop key skills, which will help to open doors to future careers within this industry. During this placement year, the chosen candidates will be provided with training, mentorship, and exposure to key roles in drug development and pharmaceutical research.We have 2 placements to offer, and they last for 54 weeks, with negotiable start dates between July and August 2026.## Key duties will include:* Supporting project teams by co-ordinating internal and external meetings.* Preparing presentations, working with the electronic data capture (EDC) system and taking minutes as required.* Supporting clinical trial set up activities by creating/maintaining clinical trial files, including Trial Master Files (TMFs), Investigator Trial Files (ITFs), Pharmacy Files (PF), Laboratory Files, and in-house electronic files.* Preparing start up documents in conjunction with the Clinical Study Manager (CSM) and Clinical Research Associate (CRA).* Ordering and distributing essential documents such as protocols, investigator brochures, and clinical study reports to investigational sites, maintaining recipient logs/trackers to ensure availability of current documentation.* Co-ordinating pharmacokinetic (PK), pharmacodynamic (PD) and biopsy sample shipments for timely delivery and analysis.* Filing and Archiving of Clinical Trial Documents.* Other tasks delegated by the Clinical Operations Manager.## If you’re a motivated life sciences student, with an interest in drug development and oncology clinical trials, then this is your opportunity to gain invaluable experience working within the pharmaceutical sector. You will also be able to demonstrate* Strong organisational and time management skills* Excellent interpersonal skills (written and verbal)* Ability to confidently communicate with an array of internal and external contacts* Excellent attention to detail* Ability to work as part of a team and independently in an enthusiastic, pro-active fashion.* Good working knowledge of Microsoft based packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)* Familiarity with ICH/GCP guidelines would be beneficial but isn’t essential* Experience working in an office environment would be beneficial but isn’t essential**Please read the following information carefully before applying:**If you would like to apply for the placement student scheme, please ensure that you meet the following criteria before completing your application form:* You must be in your 2nd year of undergraduate study at university. Please note that applications from graduates and PhD students will NOT be considered for this scheme.* You should expect to receive a 2:1 or grade B in your second-year results in a science related degree.* You should have 3 A levels (or equivalent) grade B and above (preferably one in a biological science).* You should be able to commence work between July and August 2026 (the start date is negotiable).* You should have the right to live and work in the UK without restriction.
