Overview
Are you passionate about driving environmental innovation through science ?
We’re seeking a visionary Principal Environmental Scientist to embed sustainability at the heart of product design for a global, values-led consumer products company.
This role blends hands-on research, product development, and education. You’ll explore cutting-edge chemistry, packaging, and life cycle innovations to reduce environmental and human health impacts, while also raising the organisation’s collective Environmental IQ (E’IQ).
You’ll act as a knowledge catalyst—empowering product developers worldwide to make responsible, sustainable choices and aligning product innovation with customer and supplier sustainability strategies.
What You’ll Do
Research and evaluate new materials, technologies, and packaging solutions to reduce environmental impact.
♻ Perform product life cycle assessments (LCAs) and generate actionable insights to guide design choices.
Lead initial development and lab work to assess technical feasibility and secure intellectual property.
✍ Conduct independent research and present findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
Design and deliver training/educational content for global teams (adapting for cultural differences).
Partner with customers and suppliers to align sustainability priorities with product strategies.
Advise on emerging environmental regulations and sustainability frameworks.
Collaborate with Innovation & Supply Chain teams to embed sustainability in product design and value chain (Scope 3 reductions).
What You’ll Bring
Master’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field (PhD preferred).
Strong experience in consumer product (CPG) design & development .
Interest in Green Chemistry and/or sustainable packaging.
Knowledge of LCAs, carbon accounting tools, ISO methods, and global data standards.
Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams.
Comfortable engaging directly with suppliers/customers on sustainability strategies.
Proactive, self-driven, and passionate about continuous learning and innovation.
Note: Backgrounds limited to air, water, or gas science are not suitable – consumer product experience is key.
