Mechanical Design Engineer / Project Engineer

A well‑established engineering business specialising is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing team, based at a new office in Cheshire. This role offers a blend of hands‑on engineering, project coordination, and technical design work, supporting the delivery of bespoke engineered systems for a wide range of industrial clients.
Role Overview The Engineer will manage mechanical engineering projects from sales handover through to final delivery or installation. The position involves producing detailed design work, coordinating with suppliers, overseeing manufacturing progress, and ensuring projects are delivered to specification, on time, and within budget. Key Responsibilities
1. Manage and control new engineering projects from handover topletion.
2. Assist with, and in time independently conduct, site surveys and measurements.
3. Produce plant layouts, general assemblies, and detailed fabrication drawings using AutoCAD LT (2D) and SolidWorks (3D).
4. Source, negotiate, and purchase equipment from approved suppliers.
5. Work in accordance with ISO9001 quality procedures.
6. Maintain and update job costing spreadsheets.
7. Occasionally oversee installation andmissioning activities, including travel when required.
8. Conduct progress and final inspections of equipment at sub‑supplier facilities.
9. Prepare data dossiers, technical documentation, and O&M manuals.
10. Review, check, and sign off supplier invoices relating to purchased equipment.
Qualifications
11. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
12. Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD LT (2D) and SolidWorks (3D).
13. Experience producing plant layout drawings.
14. Experience generating fabrication drawings, including structural steelwork, sheet metal, and heavy plate fabrication.
15. Willingness to undertake internal training and develop product knowledge.
Experience
16. Minimum 2 years’ experience using AutoCAD (2D) and SolidWorks (3D) in a draughting or design capacity.
17. Project engineering experience within a mechanical or industrial engineering environment is advantageous.
