Health, Safety and Environment Officer

As the Health, Safety, and Environmental Officer, you will be the driving force behind health, safety, and environmental standards within the Company. Reporting directly to the Group Operations Director, you will review & evaluate existing H&S policies and procedures and assist in the implementation of a Health and Safety Improvement Plan, ensuring compliance while actively shaping a positive safety culture.

Your Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement a proactive Health and Safety improvement plan aligned with company growth.
* Act as the key advisor on all H&S matters, driving policy changes and cultural transformation.
* Ensure full compliance with health & safety legislation and industry standards.
* Conduct and oversee risk assessments, site inspections, and accident investigations.
* Maintain accurate H&S reports and present findings to the senior leadership team.
* Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation plans, fire drills, first aid, and disaster preparedness.
* Maintain appropriate records of mandatory and annual refresher training and co – ordinate the learning, training & development options.
* Deliver in – house H&S training programs for all levels to embed a safety conscious culture.
* Incident prevention – continuously review and evaluate incidents and implement measures to prevent incidents and / or accidents.
* Travelling to different sites as and when needed by the business
Key competencies and attributes
* NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent qualification in health and safety.
* Extensive knowledge of UK construction and civil engineering, safety regulations and best practice.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to train and advise site personnel.
* Experience conducting risk assessments and managing incident investigations.
* Previous experience in a construction health and safety role is preferred.
* Ability to work independently and proactively, reporting directly to the group operations director.
Additional Key Responsibilities and Accountability:
* Understand, Role Model and Co – ordinate good practice regarding Human Resources Policies and procedures for your department and areas of responsibility.
* - Understand, Role Model and Co – ordinate good practice regarding Health & Safety for your department or areas of responsibility.
* Identify and manage risks that could impact on the operational safety of the company. Help develop contingency plans to minimize any break in service.
* In liaison with the group SHEQ manager and ensure that all compliance, health & safety requirements and specifically risk assessment guidelines are always followed. To include the provision of PPE as appropriate.
* Assist in ensuring that the company complies with relevant laws, regulations and standards.
