Position: Permanent, Full Time, Hybrid (2 days in the office)

Location: Tamworth/UK

Salary: Competitive


The Role:


At Bristan Group, we’re looking for a commercially astute Head of Category to take ownership of our product portfolio performance and shape the future of our category strategy across trade, retail, and specification channels.

This is a high‑impact leadership role where you’ll combine strategic thinking with hands‑on commercial delivery—owning category performance end‑to‑end while strengthening our brands and delivering exceptional value for customers.


The Opportunity


As Head of Category, you’ll be the senior leader responsible for driving revenue, margin, and long‑term growth across our product categories. You’ll balance short‑term trading performance with long‑term strategic vision, ensuring our portfolio meets customer needs while remaining competitive, profitable, and operationally effective.

Working closely with Product, Sales, Marketing, and Finance, you’ll translate insight into action—delivering category strategies that fuel innovation, growth, and brand strength.


What You’ll Be Doing:


Category Strategy & Leadership


  • Define and lead multi‑year category strategies aligned to growth ambitions and ESG commitments
  • Shape category roles across trade, retail, and specification channels
  • Build compelling portfolio strategies (range architecture, pricing tiers, lifecycle management)
  • Influence new product pipelines through insight‑driven opportunity identification
  • Guide investment decisions across innovation, range optimisation, and rationalisation


Commercial Performance & Trading


  • Own full P\&L accountability for category performance (revenue, margin, contribution.
  • Develop and lead pricing and discount strategies to protect and grow value
  • Set the trading rhythm—promotions, launches, exits, and stock management
  • Proactively identify risks and opportunities to deliver in‑year performance targets


Customer & Market Leadership


  • Act as the senior category partner to key customers, merchants, and buying groups
  • Translate customer and market insights into compelling product propositions
  • Monitor competitor activity, trends, and regulatory changes to inform decisions
  • Ensure our categories are simple and effective to trade across all channels

  • Proven experience leading category or commercial functions in a multi‑channel environment
  • Strong commercial acumen with full P\&L ownership experience
  • Expertise in pricing strategy, portfolio management, and trading performance
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery
  • Strong stakeholder management across cross‑functional teams and senior leadership
  • A data‑driven mindset with the ability to turn insight into action
