Environmental Health Officer (Private Sector Housing)

This is an exciting opportunity to join our busy Private Sector Housing team, contributing to improving standards and health outcomes for our residents. The successful applicant will investigate complaints, apply housing standards, take enforcement action, and lead on the licensing of our HMOs. They will assist in the delivery of grants and financial assistance to adapt and repair properties, and energy‑efficiency initiatives to achieve low‑carbon and warm homes.

What will I need?

* BSc or MSc in Environmental Health and demonstrated experience in Private Sector Housing regulation/enforcement
* HHSRS certificate of competency
* Strong interest in improving private sector housing and health outcomes
* Ability to prioritise a busy caseload and find positive solutions to complex challenges
* High motivation and enthusiasm with strong customer‑centred skills


What we offer:

* Financial: Attractive basic salary within a clear pay structure. Starting salary £44,357 increasing to £45,525 after one year of service and further to £46,692 after two years in post (subject to managerial approval).
* Sign‑on payment £5,000, 50 % paid on successful completion of probation and the other 50 % on the anniversary of 18 months.
* Holiday Entitlement: 26 days annual leave (increasing to 29 days after 5 years of continuous local government service) plus three additional days in December and bank holidays.
* Employee Assistance Programme: Access to EAP to help balance work and life.
* Free staff parking and a car‑user allowance £1,000 per annum (pro‑rated for part‑time staff).
* Pension: Membership of the Local Government (CARE – Career Average Revalued Earnings) pension scheme; employer contribution 19.7 %.
* Hybrid: Minimum 2 days working in the office per week.
* Personal Development: Training opportunities for continuing professional development.
