Medical Secretary - Vascular Surgery

The division of Surgery and Cancer would like to invite applicants for a Band 3 post to join the Medical Secretary team within Vascular Surgery at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. There is one position available for 37.5 hours per week, the post is to support Consultant surgeons. The post will be based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, but may be required to work at Bassetlaw Hospital if service needs arise.
We are looking for an experienced Medical Secretary with excellent typing and interpersonal skills to take on this very busy and varied post. They will need experience in managing the robust systems in place for the administrative engagement of patient pathways, be able to work flexibly as part of the team – sometimes across sites – and produce clinical correspondence using Medisec digital transcription software from outpatient and inpatient attendances. Experience in using the PTL (Patient Tracker List) to manage patient pathways is paramount. A knowledge of medical terminology alongside previous experience of working in a clerical/secretarial role is desirable.
You will be required to display tact and diplomacy, and have developed communication skills when dealing with senior staff, patients, colleagues and the general public.
Main duties of the job

Qualifications & Training
* Minimum of 3 GCSE's including English and Maths at Grade C or above or equivalent qualification or relevant experience
* Business Administration Level II Apprenticeship RSA III or NVQ III or equivalent qualification or relevant experience.
Knowledge & Experience
* Previous experience working in a clerical/administrative role
* Demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Word, Camis and Medisec
* Fully conversant with all waiting list functions on PAS and the ability to action these independently
* Understanding of patient priorities and targets in relation to appointments and waiting times, specifically Referral to Treatment
* Knowledge of medical terminology
