Overview
Street Scene Operative - Level 5 (Tree Surgeon) role at WMJobs. South Staffordshire Council invites applications for joining the tree team within South Stafffordshire Council (South Staffs Treeworks) to undertake tree operations on Council and commercial land to the highest quality. The Street Scene Team provides arboricultural services that support Street Scene delivery and a commercial side to maintenance operations. The role is based from the depot in Bilbrook and focuses on arboricultural (internal and commercial) works.
Work Pattern
Mon-Fri (Saturday working on rota every 8th week).
Responsibilities
* Assist with the management of the Council’s Arboricultural and Commercial operations, including external works, delivering high quality Arboricultural operations, Forestry and Grounds Maintenance services to the South Staffordshire Council and its clients.
* Supervise the tree team to ensure operations are completed on time and to a high standard; report issues to the Tree Team Inspector and Tree Team Operational Manager.
* Undertake all aspects of Arboriculture and Forestry with emphasis on climbing and high-level tree work in accordance with industry standards and the needs of tree species and environment.
* Organise resources required to complete tasks, transport equipment to site, maintain high performance and minimize wastage to achieve targets.
* Undertake training and instruction as required by management to ensure safe and efficient service delivery.
* Participate in routine machinery maintenance; ensure safe use of equipment and vehicles; maintain maintenance records and report on equipment spares levels.
* Ability to safely use, maintain and direct the use of plant, equipment and machinery (e.g., chainsaws, woodchippers, stump grinders) in a safe and competent manner.
Qualifications and Experience
* Minimum 3 years of practical arboriculture experience and climbing operations; experience delivering quality services to clients and stakeholders; experience leading a tree team on the ground.
* Essential qualifications: NPTC CS30 – chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting; CS31 – felling small trees; CS38 – tree climbing and aerial rescue; CS39 – use of a chainsaw from rope and harness. Desirable: CS41 – Aerial Tree Rigging; NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence - Wood Chipper and Stump Grinder. Demonstrated knowledge of safe working practices for arboricultural operations.
* Ability to coordinate a methodical and rational work programme; strong customer-facing manners; willingness to attend training and CPD to improve skills.
* Full driving licence required to drive the council’s fleet of operational vehicles.
