Job Title: Technical Team Project Manager
Location: Falmer, East Sussex (hybrid – 3 days per week office/ based on operational requirement and remaining WFH)
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: circa £50,000 (depending on skills and experience)

Following the success of a £45m pathfinder programme, we are now delivering a £1.5bn storm overflow reduction programme—one of the most ambitious environmental initiatives in the UK water sector. You will play a key role in shaping and delivering the technical interventions that will transform how storm overflows are managed, improving water quality for communities and ecosystems across the region.
Job Overview
As Technical Team Project Manager, you will be responsible for delivering a portfolio of complex technical projects that underpin the Clean Rivers & Seas programme. You will provide strong programme control, financial oversight, and technical coordination, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
You will work across multiple workstreams—from concept through to delivery—integrating inputs from engineers, analysts, and delivery partners to support data-led, innovative solutions.
What you’ll be responsible for:
Programme & Project Delivery
1. Deliver multiple technical projects to agreed scope, time, cost, and quality targets
2. Develop and maintain programme schedules, milestones, risks, and dependencies
3. Coordinate technical workstreams from design through to implementation
Financial & Commercial Management
4. Manage elements of the technical programme budget
5. Ensure robust forecasting, cost control, and performance reporting
6. Work collaboratively with procurement and finance teams to drive value for money
Technical Coordination
7. Oversee activities such as flow monitoring, data acquisition, modelling, and digital tool development
8. Integrate technical outputs from multidisciplinary teams
9. Ensure all deliverables are quality assured and fit for purpose
Governance & Compliance
10. Ensure adherence to governance frameworks and regulatory requirements
11. Prepare business cases, governance papers, and regulatory submissions
Stakeholder Engagement
12. Build strong relationships across Southern Water and partner organisations
13. Promote collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
About You
We are looking for a driven and collaborative project manager who thrives in a complex, fast-paced environment.
You will bring:
14. Proven experience delivering technical or infrastructure projects
15. Strong programme control, financial management, procurement and stakeholder engagement skills
16. Experience operating within regulated or governance-led environments
17. Excellent organisational and communication skills
Desirable:
18. Experience in the water, utilities, or environmental sector
19. Project management qualification (APM, PRINCE2, or equivalent)
