Pharmacy Dispensing Assistant - Aseptic Services
Assist in dispensing aseptically prepared products, such as intravenous injections or infusions, in accordance with GMP and SOPs. Use specialised equipment like isolators, syringes, needles, and other consumables, and wear protective clothing. Work in restricted environments with limited movement for extended periods.
Assist in receiving prescriptions accurately and safely. Participate in ward visits to liaise with staff and pharmacists regarding patient requirements. Prepare and assemble aseptic injectable products for delivery, ensuring correct labelling and documentation.
Set up aseptic products, e.g., antibiotics, and ensure all safety, quality, and documentation standards are met. Enter data and prepare clean rooms, conducting daily tests and reporting issues. Assist in providing high-quality aseptic dispensing services, including complex compounding such as parenteral nutrition, cytotoxic chemotherapy, and clinical trial medicines.
Monitor stock levels, expiry dates, and batch records. Check and order stock, ensuring proper storage and recording. Follow QC procedures, prepare samples for sterility testing, and maintain clean room hygiene, including isolator cleaning.
Label aseptic products, perform heat sealing, and prepare for pharmacist final checks. Assemble and disinfect ingredients and consumables, managing exposure to strong smells like alcohol. Record fridge temperatures using the Everyware logger system and check drug deliveries for safe storage.
Assist with staffing, document processing, and computer data entry, including stock issues. Collaborate with pharmacy management to ensure efficient service, participate in audits, and support clinical trials data collection.
Participate in on-call, weekend, evening, and holiday rotas. Provide dispensary cover, including reception duties, prescription processing, stock management, and pharmacy stores tasks. Comply with legal and safety regulations regarding drugs, maintain current knowledge, and contribute to process development.
Utilise concentration, physical skill, and accuracy in manipulations. Work independently with judgment, consulting senior staff as needed. Assist in training rotational staff and ensure compliance with research governance frameworks.
