Description Costain have won extensive work across the water sector to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. We have been appointed by United Utilities as one of 7 partners to the Enterprise, delivering £5.5bn of projects in the Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) between 2025 – 2030, and AMP 9 (2030 – 2035). Our scope is to provide project management, design, construction and commissioning services on design and build schemes throughout the North West and Cumbria region covered by United Utilities. Projects vary in value, covering both infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets on water and wastewater sites with wider Enterprise partners. What does an Apprenticeship at Costain offer me? The level and training provider for your apprenticeship will depend on the skills you present at interview. The Early Careers team will register you with a suitable training provider who can support the delivery of your qualification. Being an apprentice means you will work both on-the-job with your project at site, and off-the-job with the provider. When taking on one of the many apprenticeships on offer by Costain, you will be supported by your project line manager and team, the Costain Early Careers Team, and the training provider of your academic qualification. The training provider may be a college, a university or even an independent training provider. You will be supported throughout your apprenticeship by your local team and line manager, and you will be given time to carry out your studies with the provider etc. Your on-the-job training will be in line with the work available on site but will afford the opportunity to ensure that you are given on site experience required to meet the technical and competency levels in order to achieve your apprenticeship goals. What will the programme involve? · A recognised qualification: · Day or block release at College working towards your qualification · A mentor to support you through your EngTech · Attendance on apprentice development programme · On-going support and reviews on your progress · 6 monthly pay increases based on performance and attendance · Options to attend career events and promote the business · Training in line with your qualification, to help personal development · The opportunity to progress onto a further apprenticeship / chartership As an Apprentice Front Line Supervisor, you will work under supervision with section/trades foreman, labour, plant, materials and sub-contractors to support the delivery of the programme. Responsibilities Assist in managing workforce, plant and materials Communicate with rest of site team including Engineers and senior Forepersons Implement and promote safe systems of work over all activities. Ensure all records, regarding plant and hire equipment are in date and safe to use Attend and contribute to weekly meetings with site team regarding safety, progress. Ensure tool box talks, safety alerts and activity plan briefings are carried out. Ensure all statutory weekly or daily inspections are carried out, e.g. CTRM’S, assist development of the workforce and identify training requirements. Ensure high standard of quality on the works is maintained along with your relationship with the site engineers. Keep up to date with current legislation. Ensure you press pause to avoid errors Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Essential Able to read drawings and construct to them, work to a programme and keep written and electronic records Able to develop and promote safe systems of work.
