Job Overview
Come and join a forward thinking Pre-Operative Assessment Unit, as the post holder you will be required to work as part of the multidisciplinary clinical team to provide the highest standard of care for patients. Delivery of care is patient focused and has emphasis on meeting the individual patients needs during the pre - operative process. The assessment aims to prevent on the day cancellation of surgery.

Main duties of the job
Preoperatively assess a wide spectrum of adult patients prior to Orthopaedic surgery.
Be responsible for ensuring all resources are used to optimum effect, ensuring all members of the multidisciplinary team comply with local protocols in infection control, manual handling, Health and Safety, patient advocacy and will expediate quality issues, relating to Service delivery.
Anticipate where possible, needs and problems before they occur, and develop an action plan to ensure a patient specific pathway is planned prior to admission.
Provide an expert level of technical knowledge to physically assess patients prior to surgery and anaesthetic.
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high standards of patient focused care.
Deputise for the Unit Manager in their absence.

Qualifications/Training
* First level Registered Practitioner with Professional Body
* Recognised appropriate Physical assessment qualification or prior experiential learning in operative Assessment.
Desirable criteria
* Pre-Operative Assessment and / or Orthopaedic qualification
* Teaching, assessing qualification. or equivalent level of specialist skill
* Degree/Diploma or equivalent in nursing/ therapies or assessment
* Experience in Pre-Operative Assessment
Experience
* Demonstrable clinical experience at Band 5 or above
Desirable criteria
* Demonstrable experience in Orthopaedics and or Pre-Operative Assessment
Skills and Competencies
* Commitment to maintain and develop own skills and standard of care with evidence of on-going professional development
* Problem solving skills. Ability to work across professional boundaries and Within multi-disciplinary team setting
* Ability to work as a team member demonstrating effective communication and interpersonal skills
