East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Eastbourne, Specialist Stroke Pharmacist We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity within our Stroke team. We welcome applications from all sectors who have been registered for over a year. This role will involve supporting the Lead Pharmacist in our innovative large single site Stroke unit at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. Our stroke unit has been recently recognised nationally for providing outstanding service and praised for their clinical research collaboration. The successful candidates will support the Lead and Specialist Pharmacist's within Stroke to provide patient centred-care and lead on projects that support the directorate achieve clinical, pharmaceutical or financial targets. Progression and development are key priorities for our department and this role is designed to support career progression from post-registration Foundation training through to Advanced Level Practice. We also offer structured support for personal and professional growth, including access to a funded Postgraduate Clinical Diploma in Pharmacy Practice, and future support in gaining an Independent Prescribing qualification. This post will be based at Eastbourne District General Hospital.


Main duties of the job

In this role, you will work closely with consultants, medical staff, midwives, nurses, pharmacy teams, and other healthcare professionals to provide clinical pharmacy services to the specialist area. You will also support the dispensary as needed and be part of the wider clinical pharmacy team. This role will focus on providing a safe and effective clinical service to Stroke patients and a responsibility to become a Practice Supervisor for trainee pharmacists, pharmacy undergraduates, and rotational clinical pharmacists. The department will support the successful candidate in pursuing further professional development, with opportunities that align with both their career goals and the needs of the department. Additionally, you will be expected to participate in the department's weekend and on-call service on a rota basis after completing an orientation and induction period.

Qualifications

* BSc (Pharmacy) / BPharm / MPharm
* GPhC Registration (Vocational Master's degree in Pharmacy (4yrs) and 1 year's pre‑registration training and experience)
* CPD portfolio that demonstrates an ongoing commitment to personal development
* Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy or pharmacy practice / other equivalent
* Training in pharmaco‑economics / resource or change management


Experience

* 1 year pre‑registration training and experience
* Post registration experience working as a clinical pharmacist in the NHS managed sector (e.g. GP surgery, PCN, secondary care)
* Experience in utilising information technology within the workplace including inputting, retrieving information, and producing reports
* Experience of working with clinicians as a clinical pharmacist within a Stroke Unit (preferred) or clinical directorate
* Previous experience in mentoring and training pharmacy staff
* Independent prescriber


Skills

* Demonstrates an understanding of the role and the responsibility as identified within the job description
* Demonstrates knowledge of current practice and policy relating to pharmacy and targets within the NHS
* Demonstrates an ability to plan, prioritise and organise own workload, to work under pressure and act with autonomy whilst retaining a sense of own capabilities and escalating when necessary
* Demonstrates good communication skills, verbal and written
* Demonstrates an ability to analyse and interpret data
* Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of safe pharmacy practice including Medicines legislation and professional code of ethics
* Demonstrates an understanding of the needs of patients with relation to the provision of information on safe effective medicines use
* Good keyboard and IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel
* Experience of working with clinicians as a clinical pharmacist within a Stroke Unit (preferred), or clinical directorate
* Previous experience in mentoring and training pharmacy staff
* Demonstrates an understanding of risk management

£49,387 to £56,515 a year (pro rata)
