Cost Engineer Job Description
Cost Engineers support major projects and organizations by delivering accurate and timely project information related to performance against project baselines. They drive cost performance reporting, including all Earned Value Management metrics associated with key project commitments and expenditures.
Duties
1. Develop project cost control data structures to accurately track and control actual costs.
2. Establish and set the project control budget aligned with agreed baselines.
3. Track actual costs for internal and external expenditures against control structures.
4. Manage project accruals and commitments within set budget constraints.
5. Create project forecasts, including estimated work to complete (ETC) and estimate at complete (EAC).
6. Report all project information accurately and promptly, including Earned Value Management.
7. Monitor project contingency and exposure related to risk events and remaining risks.
8. Oversee project change control to ensure alignment with baselines and control data structures.
9. Identify key project trends to inform future change controls.
Qualifications
Typically, a qualified graduate in a relevant discipline with proven experience in delivering project controls services for major projects or programs. CIMA qualification is also welcomed.
Experience
Experience in cost engineering across various sectors and project lifecycle phases, including pre-investment, design, execution, and commissioning. Familiarity with cost management systems such as Prism and Ecosys, and interface with systems like SAP and Oracle, is essential.
