Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Technician Apprentice to join our onsite Equipment Engineering team in Southampton. If you have ever wondered what the machines that build parts for a satellite look like, this is the job for you.
We build, test, repair, install and decommission equipment from basic handheld voltmeters up to electron‑beam deposition machines. If you are interested in learning a broad range of engineering skills – electrical, electronic, mechanical, vacuum systems, pneumatic, lasers, software, hydraulics – in a hands‑on role, this could be the job for you.
What you will do
* Solve daily manufacturing problems
* Conduct non‑conformance investigations and problem‑solving techniques
* Deal with external suppliers
* Write and update process instructions
* Carry out repairs of electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment
* Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on a wide range of processing equipment
* Ensure equipment safety and compliance in line with health and safety regulations
* Work towards Leonardo sustainability and climate goals
* Represent Leonardo at local STEM events
You will attend college one day a week to complete a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ).
Salary
£17,850
What we need from you
* 2 GCSE grades 3-9 or equivalent (e.g. Functional Skills Level 2) and mandatory English & Maths (or equivalent)
* Good communication skills (written & verbal)
* Ability to work as part of a small team
* Demonstrate a hands‑on approach to work
* Good time management skills
* Eye for detail
* Conscientious and keen to learn
Nice to have
* Working knowledge of MS Word & Excel and general IT skills
* Knowledge of programming (C or Python)
* Knowledge of CAD
* Knowledge/experience of engineering
* Calibration and repair of commercial and bespoke test equipment
Security clearance
This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). Additional national security vetting may apply (SC or DV).
