The role
The Department of English at the University of Bristol seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Creative Writing who specialises in fiction (short story or novel) (Pathway 3, level b or c). This is an exciting opportunity for a fiction-writer with Higher Education teaching experience to join the Department’s small but growing Creative Writing team. This is a part-time (0.5) role, fixed term for 12 months, in the first instance. The start date is 1 September 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.
What will you be doing?
You will facilitate Creative Writing workshops and supervise Creative Writing dissertations. You will contribute to all levels of undergraduate and taught postgraduate teaching and assessment in Creative Writing. You will contribute to related administrative work in the Department of English.
You should apply if
You will have a record of publication in fiction (short story and/or novel) commensurate with your career stage, with evidence of growing critical esteem/national recognition, and potentially, experience in publishing creative non-fiction/life writing. You will have a Masters level qualification in Creative Writing or a related discipline. You will be an engaging and inspiring teacher, committed to developing your teaching practice and enthusing and supporting students. You will have an understanding of current developments in the field and of emerging pedagogies and approaches. You will be able to manage your own duties independently and work collaboratively in a small team.
