Job Title: Test Engineer
Salary: £32,000 – £42,000
Location: Andover, Hampshire (Onsite)
Why this role
You understand what’s happening behind the button press.
You don’t just run tests, you build the system that makes testing possible. You write the code, tune the control, configure the hardware and know exactly how voltage, current and phase angle translate into real-world performance.
This is a rare opportunity to join a fast-growing electric powertrain engineering company at the point where its test capability is evolving from internal validation to something much bigger. If you have strong LabVIEW or hardware-focused coding experience and want to work closer to high-voltage drives, inverters and electric motors, this role gives you that platform.
The opportunity
You’ll take ownership of programming and developing advanced test rigs used to validate high-voltage electric motors and inverter-drive systems.
The core of this role is software for hardware. You’ll develop and refine data acquisition systems, configure and commission controllers, integrate sensors, manage CAN communication, and ensure precise control of high-power drive systems. Experience with LabVIEW, dSPACE or similar platforms is highly valued.
Hands-on experience with inverters, motor drives or HV systems is advantageous but if your coding background is strong and relevant to electrical powertrain or drive systems, the business will invest in developing your motor testing expertise.
You’ll work across multiple test rigs covering automotive traction, aviation, motion and robotics applications. This is not a single-product environment. The variety is real.
About the company
This UK-based engineering business designs and validates advanced electric powertrain systems across multiple sectors. With growing demand in automotive and aviation markets, the company is scaling its test and production capability.
Test rigs are currently central to internal validation but the long-term vision is bigger. There is a clear ambition to expand into customer-facing consultancy and independent motor validation services, creating new revenue streams and leadership opportunities.
About you
You may be a junior-to-mid-level engineer with two to five years’ experience in electrical engineering, power electronics, drive systems or motor control.
What matters most is that you’ve written real code for real hardware. You understand data acquisition, sensor integration, inverter control and electrical systems. You’re comfortable around high-voltage equipment and motivated to deepen your expertise in electric motor testing.
You’re collaborative, practical and confident communicating with colleagues — and potentially customers as you grow.
Rewards & progression
This is a growth hire. With the right ambition, you could develop into a senior test engineer or build and lead a small test team as the function expands.
Alongside a salary of £32,000 – £42,000, you’ll gain exposure to high-power (200–400kW) electric drive systems and work at the heart of an innovation-led engineering environment.
How to apply
If you’re ready to move beyond running tests and start building the systems that power them, this could be your next step.
