Responsibilities
* Maintain, inspect and repair the track network (Permanent Way or P-Way) to keep the railway safe and efficient. This is a manual role involving rails, sleepers, ballast, drainage and related structures.
* Work outdoors in all conditions, as part of a team, often transporting kit across challenging terrain. Maintain safety, follow rules, and work alongside moving trains traveling at high speed.
* Support the team leader, lead the team when asked, ensure the team has the right competencies to meet safety standards, and model safe working behaviours. Be confident to challenge risks to safety.
* Contribute to a pathway from technician to potential future team leadership, with emphasis on self-development and continuous learning. Training provided to develop technical and non-technical skills.
Skills & Qualifications
* Leadership – able to lead, motivate and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
* Effective communicator – strong communication skills to deliver clear instructions.
* Technical skills – knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques in the applicable discipline.
* Safety – capable of implementing safe systems of work and challenging unsafe situations.
* Problem solving – persistent in finding safe and effective solutions and keeping up to date with new standards, procedures and instructions.
* Willingness to learn – continually develop skills and keep up to date with standards and procedures.
* Relevant qualification – ideally NVQ Level 1 or 2 in the discipline or equivalent experience.
Additional Information
* Shifts – Changing pattern including days, nights and weekends.
* Outdoor working – Comfortable outdoors in different weather conditions.
* Pre-employment checks – Drug and alcohol testing, medical assessment and BPSS checks; hearing and eyesight examinations may be required.
* Driving – Driving licence (category B) required to drive Network Rail vehicles.
* Commute – Within a 60-minute commute of the location you’re applying for.
