Summary
Reporting to the Operations Director, this role provides strategic leadership and operational oversight across multiple warehouse sites within the region. The role ensures efficient, safe, and cost-effective warehouse operations while driving service excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities include inventory management, transportation, workforce performance, health & safety standards, and financial results. The position aligns warehouse operations with the wider business strategy, strengthens client relationships, and fosters employee engagement that supports Metro values and vision.
Responsibilities
* Lead team(s) to deliver and achieve agreed strategic operational and commercial goals.
* Provide the Metro Executive team with regular performance status and proposals for continuous improvements.
* With the Operations Director, Project Manager, HR and Finance, produce Business Operating Plans with financial plans and budgets to drive costs down and improve service.
* Identify business opportunities with existing and prospective customers and prepare business proposals.
* Create appropriate customer solutions and own implementation, coordinating internal and external activities; ensure smooth onboarding of new customers.
* Partner with the finance team to create budget and forecast files; articulate and agree all assumptions and KPIs.
* Ensure budgetary controls are managed and lead weekly P&L to meet or exceed budgetary expectations.
* Embed a high-performance team structure with progressive management and supervisory growth for operational excellence.
* Coach and develop reporting managers in people management and oversee training/development plans to assist succession planning.
Qualifications and Skills
* Established manager with strong commercial business acumen and inspirational leadership.
* Strong stakeholder engagement, collaborative behaviors, and experience leading high-performing teams.
* Proficient in warehouse solution design and process improvements.
* Technical background with the ability to present technical issues/solutions to customers.
* Extensive knowledge of warehouse and fleet management.
* Experience in the defence sector and production is advantageous.
* NEBOSH or IOSH Health and Safety qualifications.
* Hold a valid UK driving license and be able to travel regularly across UK sites.
