Job Overview
We are seeking a Band 5 Wheelchair Therapist (Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist) to join our multidisciplinary team. The role involves assessing and providing wheelchairs and equipment to service users of all ages with long-term disabilities. You will work primarily in clinics and in the community, visiting service users at their homes or other locations.
Main Responsibilities
* Assess, prescribe, and provide wheelchairs and related equipment.
* Work within local eligibility criteria for wheelchair provision.
* Offer personal wheelchair budgets where appropriate.
* Ensure safe use of prescribed equipment through handovers and advice.
* Manage your workload efficiently and document assessments and interventions.
* Supervise Therapy Assistants/Support Practitioners and students.
* Maintain your CPD and stay informed about wheelchair products and practices.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
* Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy.
* HCPC registration as an OT or Physiotherapist.
* Postgraduate training or relevant experience.
* Experience working with adults and children with long-term conditions and adaptive equipment.
* Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
* Experience in wheelchair services or related areas.
* Knowledge of national policies like personalized care and PWB.
Skills and Personal Qualities
* Effective communication and report writing skills.
* Good time management and prioritization.
* Assessment and problem-solving skills.
* Risk assessment abilities.
* Positive attitude, flexibility, empathy, and a valid UK driving license with access to a vehicle.
