Location: Sunderland - SR2
Salary: £40,000 - £43,000pa
Qualification: Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and experienced Deputy Manager to join our established Ofsted-registered children’s home at SR2 level.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a strong and motivated leader who thrives in a supportive environment and wants to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people.
As Deputy Manager, you’ll support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance are maintained. You’ll spend 1–2 days a week on the floor working directly with young people and staff, with the remaining time dedicated to office-based leadership, planning, and quality oversight.
Key Responsibilities
 * Support the Registered Manager in the effective running of the home and deputise in their absence.
 * Ensure all care delivery meets Ofsted standards and the home’s Statement of Purpose.
 * Lead, mentor, and develop a team of residential childcare workers, promoting a culture of professionalism and care excellence.
 * Contribute to care planning, placement reviews, and safeguarding practices.
 * Oversee shift planning, supervision, and training of staff.
 * Ensure all administrative, regulatory, and reporting requirements are met.
 * Participate in on-call duties on a rota basis.
 * Maintain positive relationships with external professionals, families, and local authorities.
 * Be a visible, active presence — leading by example both on the floor and in the office.
About You
 * Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
 * Progressing toward or willing to complete Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management.
 * Previous experience working in a children’s residential setting, ideally as a Senior or Team Leader.
 * Strong understanding of Ofsted regulations, safeguarding, and therapeutic childcare practices.
 * Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
 * A passion for improving outcomes for children and young people.
What We Offer
 * Competitive salary and benefits package.
 * Ongoing professional development and support toward Level 5 qualification.
 * Clear career progression opportunities within a well-run, growing organisation.
 * Supportive leadership team and a positive, child-focused culture.
If you’re an experienced childcare professional ready to step into leadership — or a current Deputy Manager seeking a new challenge — we’d love to hear from you.
