Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to invite applications for the position of Band 7 Ward Manager for Cragside Ward, part of our Mental Health Inpatient Older Persons Services.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinical leader to join a well-established service and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, safe and compassionate care for older adults with complex mental health needs.
Main duties of the job
To provide the highest standard of holistic safe and effective care through evidence based professional practice, in line with agreed local and national standards.
Responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the ward.
Accountable for the planning and delivery of all aspects of patient care throughout the working period as set out in the NMC Code.
To provide a continuously improving service in line with the clinical governance framework, Trust objectives, and the NHS performance framework.
To provide clinical leadership, expertise, advice and support to the nursing and multi‑professional team to facilitate effective delivery of care to patients at all times.
To support and continually develop staff to ensure they have the appropriate level of skill, knowledge and competence to meet service/speciality requirements.

The post holder will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide high quality and safe care for patients, staff and visitors.
They will provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity and role‑model the trust values at all times. They must have evidence of continuous professional development.
The post holder will have operational responsibility for all aspects of clinical standards, professional practice, manage and co‑ordinate staff, budget, resources and the environment.
Demonstrate effective leadership, being visible and accessible to patients, families and carers which ensures efficient, effective and caring services.
Accountability for the delivery of all performance indicators, essential standards and quality outcomes.
Develop and where appropriate deliver training packages to enhance the knowledge and skills of the workforce and students.

Qualification
* Registered on the NMC register, Mental Health
* Leadership Qualification
Skills
* Skills in developing and changing clinical practice
* Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including IT literacy
* Ability to build and maintain high standards of professional links and communication channels with a variety of personnel and agencies
* Ability to manage own time effectively and to produce pieces of work on time and to a high standard.
* Ability to delegate appropriately.

Experience
* Significant experience of Managing Clinical Practice at Band 6 / equivalent level
* Budget and resource management understanding.
* Experience of providing management supervision and appraisal
* First line management & leadership experience.
* Competent in receiving and providing clinical supervision and reflective practice.
* Able to demonstrate experience at a senior clinical level including some staff management /supervision experience.
* Evidence of providing leadership in a Mental Health care environment including service development.
* Experience of working with other client groups and of using a variety of models and approaches to care.
* Experience of implementing significant changes in working practices.
Physical Requirement
* Physically able to undertake a demanding role safely, as and when required.
