The Tara Group is a family-owned independent company, consisting of four companies involved in the construction of housing. It was originally founded in 1974 by Noel Sweeney and remains in the ownership of the Sweeney Family. With offices in Chasetown, we employ over 250 across our group and work with over 400 sub-contractors. We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Trainee Engineer to join our Groundworks and Civil Engineering team. This role is ideal for someone early in their career who is eager to learn, develop technical skills, and gain hands-on experience working on a variety of construction and infrastructure projects. As a Trainee Engineer, you will support our engineering team with setting out, surveying, and quality control while working closely with site management and subcontractors. You will be given structured training, mentoring, and real opportunities for progression within the business. Key role responsibilities Assist with setting out for groundworks, drainage, roadworks, foundations, and structural elements. Support engineering and site teams with surveying duties, including using GPS, total stations, and laser levels. Help maintain and interpret technical drawings, site plans, and specifications. Carry out quality checks to ensure works meet required standards and specifications. Assist in recording as-built information, measurements, and daily progress reports. Work with site management to ensure health, safety, and environmental requirements are followed. Support the coordination of subcontractors and site operatives. Learn to use engineering software and digital tools as part of project delivery. Attend internal and external training to develop technical and professional skills. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Willingness to work outdoors in a site environment. Positive attitude with a proactive approach to learning. Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks. GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English. Full UK driving licence.
