The New Wolsey Theatre (NWT) are looking for a Support Worker, ideally with experience of supporting a blind or partially sighted person, to work 1 day per week in central Ipswich, for 7 weeks.
The support worker will be assisting Alex (she/ they) working as an actor rehearsing and performing in The New Wolsey Theatre’s autumn play, Don’t Look Now.
You would be supporting Alex and guide dog Brody with practical assistance such as navigation to and from the rehearsal room, and to and from the theatre in central Ipswich, as well as supporting Alex whilst at work with general tasks and administrative duties in order for them to maintain independence and participate fully.
The role is for 1 day per week Monday to Friday- the particular day is to be determined.
Dates: 1 weekday per week (to be determined) on the below weeks:
·w/c 15th September- rehearsals at DanceEast
·w/c 22nd September- rehearsals at DanceEast
·w/c 29th September- rehearsals at DanceEast
·w/c 6th October- rehearsals at NWT
·w/c 13th October- performances at NWT
·w/c 20th October- performances at NWT
Contract: A freelance contract will be issued by NWT.
Fee: £16 per hour paid on receipt of invoice.
Hours: Working hours will fluctuate, are to be determined each week and will be a mixture of daytime and evenings depending on if you are supporting a rehearsal or performance day. Each working day will be up to 9 hours per day (but will sometimes be shorter) with breaks. Start and end times will be between approx. 8am and 10pm.
About you: You will be patient and compassionate with great communication skills, have a professional outlook and a positive attitude.
Previous experience supporting a blind or partially sighted person, or disabled person is desirable.
Previous experience is supporting an actor, artist or working within an arts environment is desirable but not essential.
